Andrew R. Weiss

Andrew R. Weiss is a 1980 graduate of the U.C. Davis, King Hall School of Law. From 1980 to 2007, he practiced with Baker, Manock & Jensen of Fresno, specializing primarily in the defense of medical malpractice claims, medical board disciplinary matters and employment litigation. He became a shareholder of the firm in 1985 and was chair of its Professional Liability Defense Practice Group from 2000 to 2007. He has tried numerous jury trials in counties throughout the San Joaquin Valley, the Central Coast and Southern California. On April 1, 2007, he co-founded Weiss, Martin, Salinas & Hearst, a civil litigation firm specializing in medical malpractice defense in Fresno.

He is a Fellow of the American College of Trial Lawyers and a member of both the American Board of Trial Advocates and the California Medical-Legal Committee. For five years beginning in 2002, he served as a member of the Board of Directors of the Association of Defense Counsel of Northern California and Nevada, and in 2007, became a member of its Executive Committee. In 2006, he was editor-in-chief of that organizationís magazine, Defense Comment. In 2008, he became Secretary/Treasurer for the organization, in 2009 he was 2nd Vice-President, and in 2010 he was 1st Vice-President. He served as its President in 2011, and will be its Immediate Past President in 2012.

Mr. Weiss was President of the Fresno County Bar Association in 2009, and served on its Board of Directors from 2003 through 2010. He is a Prime Member of the Association of Defense Trial Attorneys, a national civil litigation defense organization (the only Prime Member designated for Fresno County). Mr. Weiss has an A-V Preeminent rating from Martindale Hubbell. He is a Fellow of the American Bar Foundation and, since 2008, has been included in an annual list of top Fresno lawyers by Fresno Magazine. He has been designated seven times a Northern California Super Lawyer by San Francisco Magazine.

In 2008, Mr. Weiss became a Diplomate of the American Board of Professional Liability Attorneys, with special competence in the area of Medical Professional Liability. In 2009, he was named a Fellow of the Litigation Counsel of America, a national, invitation-only trial lawyer honorary society.

He is admitted to practice before all the Courts of the State of California, the U.S. District Courts for the Eastern, Northern and Central Districts of California, and the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals. He is a member of the Fresno County, California and American Bar Associations. †
